Baptism at
King’s Cross Church
Baptism is one of the oldest and most meaningful practices of the Christian faith. From the Jordan River to the early church—and still today—followers of Jesus step into the water as a public declaration of new life in Him.
If you are considering baptism, we would be honored to walk with you.
What Is Baptism?
The word baptize comes from the Greek baptizō, meaning to dip, immerse, or plunge under water.
Baptism is an outward sign of an inward reality—a public declaration that you belong to Jesus Christ and identify with His death, burial, and resurrection.
“For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ.” — Galatians 3:27
What Does Baptism Represent?
Cleansing from Sin
“Rise and be baptized and wash away your sins, calling on his name.” — Acts 22:16
Union with Christ’s Death and Resurrection
“We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death… so we too might walk in newness of life.” — Romans 6:4
New Life in Christ
“If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation.” — 2 Corinthians 5:17
Baptism does not save us—but it joyfully proclaims that God has saved us.
Why Be Baptized?
Because Jesus commanded it.
“Go therefore and make disciples… baptizing them…” — Matthew 28:19
To follow Jesus is to believe in Him, be baptized, and learn to obey Him.
“Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved.” – Mark 16:16
Baptism in the Early Church
In the book of Acts, baptism is the immediate response of those who believed the gospel.
“Those who received his word were baptized.” — Acts 2:41
Again and again, Scripture shows the same pattern: The gospel is heard. Faith is expressed. Baptism follows.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Baptism Save You?
No. Salvation comes through faith in Jesus Christ alone (Ephesians 2:8–9).
Baptism is the believer’s response to salvation—not the cause of it.
Who Should Be Baptized?
Anyone who has placed their faith in Jesus and desires to follow Him.
“Those who received his word were baptized.” — Acts 2:41
What About Infant Baptism?
In the New Testament, baptism always follows personal faith.
There is no set age—anyone able to clearly express faith in Christ may be baptized.
Why Baptism by Immersion?
The word baptizō means “to immerse,” and immersion best pictures our union with Christ in His death and resurrection (Romans 6:4).
